In 2016, The CALI Project was born out of a deep concern for capable adults who were being left behind. We witnessed a disheartening reality: once individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities completed their schooling, they were left to navigate the world on their own.
A year later, our journey took a significant leap forward when we secured the keys to a house that we now proudly call home. This house, called the CALI House, serves as a safe haven for our CALI Crew— a place where they can temporarily reside and practice essential life skills. It is here that they learn to cook nutritious meals, manage finances, develop social connections, and gain the confidence to navigate the world independently.
Ten years later, that mission is still very much alive!
What began with a single house has grown into three programs supporting adults at every stage of their journey toward independence: our in-home and community-based Independent Living Skills (ILS) training, the CALI Transition House gradual-release program here in Santa Cruz, and our Tailored Day Services (TDS). Together, these programs have helped countless individuals build the skills and confidence to live life on their own terms.
